Weekly Update 2/7

Hello KA Parents,

Wow! I cannot believe that we have already reached the 100th day of school!  The KA students are 100 days smarter!  I am so proud of them in so many ways:  they have grown academically, socially, and behaviorally.

Next week we will focus on the letter Ee and the sight words “this” and “do”.  In math, we begin adding and subtracting numbers!  This will be an ongoing math unit that will last many weeks.  In religion and social studies, we will be learning about Lent, Ash Wednesday, and St. Valentine.

Also, the middle school science lab now has salmon eggs!  We will get to visit the salmon eggs to observe how they change over time.

We have many exciting activities coming up in KA:

Friday Feb. 9th– 100th day of school!  In KA, we celebrate the 100th day of school in a big way!  Students are invited to dress up like they are 100 years old (think grey hair, granny glasses, canes, etc.), and we will have a parade through the school to show everyone our counting skills.  Thank you to those who have signed up to bring items for our special 100 day snack! (Please send them in the day before).

Tuesday Feb. 13th– Valentine’s day/Mardi Gras.  Since Valentine’s day falls on Ash Wednesday this year, we will celebrate Valentine’s day on Tues. Feb. 13th.  Free dress on Feb. 13th for Valentines Day (red/white/pink).  Students can bring Valentines cards to share with all their classmates- we have 18 students.  Our Valentines Party will begin at 1:45 pm.  Please let me know if you would like to volunteer to help out during the party, at 1:45!  We will need 3-4 volunteers. Thank you! Thank you to those who have signed up to bring items for our Valentine Cookie decorating!

Wednesday Feb. 14th– Ash Wednesday- Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.  Update- mass will be at 11:00 (not 8:30).  Please feel free to join us for the Ash Wednesday Mass at 11:00.  Please make sure students wear full uniform on mass days. This is a longer mass that usual, and the students will receive ashes on their forehead.  We will learn about Lent and Ash Wednesday ahead of time.  The ashes symbolize being sorry for our sins, and recognizing the Lenten season of remembering Jesus’s death and resurrection.

Friday Feb. 16th– No school, teacher in-service day.

Monday Feb. 19th and Tuesday Feb. 20th No school, Presidents Day/Mid-winter break.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
