Weekly Update 3/7

Hello KA parents,

As we work are working away in the classroom, I have been so impressed with the progress the students have been making in reading and math!  All of their hard work is paying off, and they have become so excited to show off their new skills!  They will be ready for first grade before you know it!

As a school, we had our scheduled formal parent-teacher conferences in November.  However, if you would like to schedule an informal check-in conference during the month of March, please let me know.  It is a great time to check in and discuss progress in academics, social development, and behavior.

Next week, we will be focusing on the letter Kk and the sight words “little” and “said.”  We will be learning about St. Patrick in religion, and continuing to learn about the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in one God.)  In math, we will begin subtraction, and study how addition and subtraction are related.

*Save the date! Our second field trip of the year will be to the Everett Fire Station, on Friday May 4th.  This is a short field trip, with about an hour long tour.  More information will be coming later, but if you are interested in driving/chaperoning, please make sure you have all necessary trainings and forms on file with the school office ahead of time.

*Last Friday you may have noticed that we sent home a Scholastic book order.  If you choose to order books,  you may send it in to me with a check or you can order online (online class code is P74D8.)  The March orders are due by March 23.

Upcoming dates:

  • Thursday March 15- St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 2:00, please come to watch if you can!  Wear GREEN!
  • Friday March 16- No school, teacher in-service day
  • Saturday March 17- SMM Shenanigans (adult-only event). Parents, hope to see you there! Don’t have a babysitter? Leave the kids at home with dad and make it a “mom’s night out”!  This is a fun, casual event that supports our school.
  • Friday March 30- Good Friday. Kindergarten will attend the “Living Stations of the Cross” at 11:00 with the school.  Please join us if you can!  Early dismissal at 12:00 (no lunch).
  • April 2-6 Spring break, no school.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
