Weekly Update 5/16

Hello KA parents,

Wow, thank you all for your generosity and kindness during Teacher Appreciation Week!  Mrs. Geppert and I were so touched by the sweet cards, flowers, and surprises the children brought, and the wonderful food and treats the parents provided.  We feel so loved; thank you!

Our ABC countdown is in full swing in kindergarten and we are getting closer to summer!  The students are having a lot of fun earning their special ABC activities every day.  Next week in reading, we will be reviewing all of our letters and beginning digraphs.  These are the sounds made by combining two consonants together (th, ch, ph, sh, wh).  We will be reviewing all of our sight words, and continue working on sounding out new words.  In math, we will be introducing time and money.  We will also start preparing for our end of the year brunch presentation and assembly, by learning our songs and poems.

You will notice that the homework coming home Friday includes a parent survey and a student survey.  Thank you for taking a few minutes to fill this out.  It helps reflect on the year with this class, as well as guide my planning for the coming year in kindergarten.  (I am also attaching the parent survey digitally, here, if you prefer.)

Scholastic book orders came home this week.  This will be our last order for the school year, and would be a great opportunity to stock up on summer books!  Please complete your online orders, or send in with payment, by Monday May 21.

Coming up:

Thursday 5/17:  the students are asked to bring a piece of fruit for our fruit salad day.  Please bring one piece of fruit (or a sandwich bag of fruit) on Thursday.  Thank you!

Friday 5/18: primary track meet- we will cheer on the track meet, students should wear green and gold to show their SMM Irish spirit!  Also, we will be outdoors during most of the afternoon, so you might want to pre-apply sunscreen on your child and send a hat!

Monday 5/21: Hat day! Students may bring a hat to wear to class.

*Important Reminders:

  • With the warm weather, and our warm classroom, it is very important that students have a refillable water bottle to drink from in the classroom every day!  Please make sure to send one!
  • Also, please make sure to label all uniform sweatshirts and vest with your student’s name!

Save the dates!

Thursday June 14th– 11:00 am- KA celebration brunch: this will be a special day with songs, student presentations, awards, and brunch!  Please plan on attending this special brunch in our class! We want to make sure each student has at least one special parent or family member in attendance.  Please let Mrs. White know how many family members will attend, so we can plan for enough chairs, etc.

Friday June 15th– 9:30 am- End of year prayer service: this assembly in the church will feature special prayers and songs sung by the students of KA and KB.

Mrs. Katie White

Kindergarten Teacher, KA

Published by

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
