Weekly Update 11/9

Hello KA Families,

We have had a great week learning about Veterans Day, and focusing on the many things we are grateful for!  We will attend the Veterans Day assembly this afternoon at 2:00, led by the sixth grade.  Please join us if you can!

Coming up next week, we will be reviewing the letters “Tt” and “Ii” in reading, and reviewing all of our sight words so far:  I, a, the, can, we, go, am, at, see, like. You can help support your student in their learning by talking about letter sounds and sight words as you read together. In math, we will be starting numbers 6-12 (recognizing these numbers, writing, and counting.)

Reminders:

  • Library books are due back each Thursday.
  • Please be sure your child comes to school with a weather-appropriate jacket or coat.
  • Please remind you student to tuck in their white shirts, as per the uniform policy.

Coming up:

  • Monday, Nov. 12th: No school in honor of Veterans Day.
  • The Thanksgiving food drive has begun, and kindergarten is collecting boxes of cake mix.  Please help our school provide this important community service through St. Vincent de Paul.  It is greatly appreciated!  Food donations are due by Friday, Nov. 16th.
  • Conferences are coming!  Thank you for signing up for conferences.  This is an important time to conference with each family to talk about academic, behavioral, and social/emotional growth and goals for each student.  I look forward to meeting with each of you!  Students are welcome to be part of the conference in kindergarten.
  • There are four half days coming up this month, due to conferences and the Thanksgiving holiday: Nov. 16, 19, 20, 21.  On these half days, school is dismissed at 12:00 noon.  There is no lunch period on half days, but please pack a snack for your child.  (If your child is going to extension, then they will need to bring a lunch to eat there.)
  • Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 11:00 we will have our KA Thanksgiving Feast.  I will provide turkey for the class, and I would like to invite others to bring a dish to share.  It can be any dish that is a favorite for your child or a tradition in your family. This is a fun, community-building tradition in KA.  We will share a meal and give thanks together.  Parents and family members are invited as well!  Please let me know if you would like to contribute a dish to share, and if you think you can come to eat with us!  Thank you!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
