Weekly Update 3/29

Hello KA Parents,

I can’t believe it is almost April!  These last few month of the school year always zoom by.  It is so exciting to see how far the students have come since the start of the year…  This final trimester is when they really start to apply and connect all they have learned, especially in math and reading.  This coming week in reading, we will be focusing on the letters Gg and Ww.  We will be working on the sight words “he” and “she.”   In math, we are learning about measurement.  We will continue to work on addition and subtraction continually at math stations throughout the rest of the year.  In science, we are observing the seeds we planted and recording our findings in our science journal.  As of Friday afternoon, we had three marigold sprouts!  I think by Monday, we will see many more!  The sunflowers will begin sprouting soon as well.

Upcoming Dates:

-Friday April 5: Class photo day.  Students must wear full uniform.  Order forms were sent home in folders today.

-April 11, 12, 13th at the Everett Historic Theater: SMM Drama Production of Lion King, Jr. I know our KA class has a lot of siblings/cousins that are part of the play, and many of the 6th grade buddies as well.  My son Eliot is a hyena, and Mrs. Geppert’s daughter Natalie is playing Nala!  You can purchase tickets here:  https://smmlionking.brownpapertickets.com/  Hope to see you there!

-Friday April 19th: Good Friday, we will attend “Living Stations of the Cross” presented by the 8th graders.  Please join us in the church if you are able. This day is a noon dismissal, no lunch.

-Spring Break (No School) is April 22-26.

-Field trip to Fire Station 1 in Everett on Thursday May 23rd.

A couple of reminders for school, especially now that it is spring:

  • Make sure the daily reading log/weekly homework is part of your family routine.  I know the nice weather pulls us all outdoors more in the evenings, which is wonderful, but please don’t abandon homework! These simple homework routines help establish habits that will remain with your child throughout their school career.
  • Each child needs to bring a refillable water bottle every day!  Our classroom gets warm, and the kids gets thirsty throughout the day.
  • Make sure girls wear shorts underneath their skirt/jumper if they don’t wear tights.

Lenten Service

-You may have noticed that each student received a Rice Bowl for Lent. It is an optional charity collection that helps raise money for the poor through Catholic Relief Services.  Students may bring their Rice Bowl donations back to class by Good Friday, or put it in your church collection basket at Mass on Easter.

-The first graders are leading another Lenten charity collection for the March of Dimes for mothers and babies.  There is a collection box in the KA classroom if you are interested.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
