Weekly Update 9/22

Dear KA Families,

Thank you for your Fun Run support!  It was a great show of school and community spirit out on the field on Friday!  This week in KA, we will be reviewing the letters Aa and Mm, and the sight words “I”, “we”, “can”, “the”, and “am”.  In math, we will be working on patterns, sorting, and beginning with numbers.  In science, we will be discussing ways to keep our bodies healthy!  In social studies, we will be learning what it means to be a Peace-maker.  In religion, we are learning about creation, and different ways to pray.

Homework Reminder: Homework is due each Friday.  Please make sure to check off and/or initial the daily activities to show which ones your child has completed.  Please make sure to fill in the reading log as you go as well!  Mrs. White and Mrs. Geppert check that the homework is completed each week.  It will be collected on the last Friday of the month.  Students will receive the October homework this Friday.

Field trip reminder: Permission slips and $7 fee was due Friday.  Please return asap if you haven’t already.  Mrs. Olson will be checking the requirements for all volunteers.  Our field trip to The Farm at Swan’s Trail is on Oct. 10th.  All children will need to ride in a booster seat or car seat when we carpool to the farm.  I will be contacting the parent volunteers soon to coordinate the logistics of the day.

Tuesday is Peace Day!  Throughout the year, the 8th graders organize spirit days and Peace days for our school.  Tuesday is the first Peace day, and they will be hosting a Peace assembly.  If students have a blue SMM Peace shirt from last year, they may wear it on this day (otherwise, wear uniform.)  If you would like to order a Peace shirt for your child to wear for future peace days, you can find the link here: t-shirts are $8.

Classroom reminders:

  • Please make sure your child has a weather-appropriate coat or jacket every day, and a refillable water bottle!  Thank you.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
