Weekly Update 9/27

Dear KA Families,

We have had such a great week!  We are in full swing with literacy stations, math stations, and our first Scholastic Let’s Find Out magazine.  It is exciting to see the students begin to take ownership of their learning and the classroom routines.  Next week in KA, we will focus on the letter Ss and the sight word “like.”  In math, we will be working on different ways to sort (by color, shape, type, etc.) and beginning with numbers.  In science, we will continue discussing ways to keep our bodies healthy!

The new October homework calendar and reading log are coming home in folders today.  Please make sure to check off and/or initial the daily activities to show which ones your child has completed AND fill out the reading log on the back!  Mrs. White and Mrs. Geppert check that the homework is completed each week.  It will be collected on the last Friday of the month.

Coming Up:

  • Friday, Oct. 4th:  First Friday- the first Friday of each month is free dress, and St. Vincent de Paul food drive (in lower parking lot before school).  Thank you for supporting the important community charity!
  • Thursday Oct. 10th:  Field Trip to The Farm at Swan’s Trail!  Thank you, everyone, for turning in the permission slips!  All children will need to ride in a booster seat or car seat when we carpool to the farm.  I will be contacting the parent volunteers soon to coordinate the logistics of the day. *Students may wear free dress for this field trip.  Please dress for being outdoors at the farm!
  • Friday Oct. 11th: No school, Archdiocese-wide teacher in-service day.

Classroom reminders: Please make sure your child has a weather-appropriate coat or jacket every day, and a refillable water bottle!  Thank you.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
