Weekly Update 10/4

Dear KA Families,

Happy October! Can you believe the students have been in school for 23 days?  I recently read an article about the “magic” of the 25th day in kindergarten.  It is often the turning point in really solidifying classroom routines, expectations, and working as a team in the kindergarten classroom.   The students are feeling comfortable in class and with their teachers, making friends with new classmates, and responding to instructions and learning.

Next week in KA, we will focus on the letter Pp and the sight word “a.”  In math, we will be working on different ways to sort (by color, shape, type, etc.) and beginning with numbers.  In science, we will be learning about the life cycle of pumpkins and conducting pumpkin investigations!

It looks like the October homework is off to a great start, keep up the good work!  Mrs. White and Mrs. Geppert check homework each Friday.  It will be collected on the last Friday of the month.

Coming Up:

  • Thursday Oct. 10th:  Field Trip to The Farm at Swan’s Trail!  Thank you, everyone, for turning in the permission slips!  All children will need to ride in a booster seat or car seat when we carpool to the farm.  I will be contacting the parent volunteers soon to coordinate the logistics of the day. *Students may wear free dress for this field trip.  Please dress for being outdoors at the farm!
  • Friday Oct. 11th: No school, Archdiocese-wide teacher in-service day.
  • Thursday Oct. 17th: Math night!  5:30-6:30 pm.  Come to SMM to learn more about how to support your child in math.  Classrooms in the primary wing, and the library will be open for math games and activities.

Classroom reminders: Please make sure your child has a weather-appropriate coat or jacket every day, and a refillable water bottle!  Thank you.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
