Weekly Update 2/27

Hello KA Families,

Lent is here!  What does your family do to recognize this important liturgical season?  Students received Rice Bowls through Catholic Relief Services, and have been encouraged to do some extra chores at home to earn some coins for the Rice Bowl collection.  Rice Bowls can be returned to church during Lent, or to the classroom.  We will make sure all Rice Bowl collections are turned in by Palm Sunday.

KA will be attending the “Living Stations of the Cross” with the school on Good Friday.  Our kindergarten class is looking forward to joining the rest of the school for weekly Wednesday masses after Easter in the new church!  When we attend mass after Easter, we will sit with our 6th grade buddies.

Next week in KA, we will focus on the letter Kk and the sight words “little” and “said”. (We are also practicing “this” and “what” which are sometimes tricky words to remember!) In math, we are working on larger numbers, including teens, twenties, and beyond.  We will also begin addition in March!   “Read Across America” Day is Monday March 2. Students are invited to bring books from home to read in class, and they may also bring a (small) pillow or blanket to cuddle up with while they read.

Please note Mrs. White and Mrs. Geppert check homework each Friday, please make sure your child is completing the assigned activities!

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
