Weekly Update 1/5

Hello KA Families,

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year with your families.  As we return to school this week, we will be celebrating Epiphany (King’s Day) in religion!  In social studies, we will be talking about the New Year, and writing New Year’s resolutions! Do you make resolutions in your family?  In reading, we will be reviewing letters Oo and Ff, and all of our sight words.  In math, we will be learning about equal parts, halves, and continue working on symmetry.  In art, we will be creating snow-paint for a special snowy art project.

Upcoming events:

  • Students will have PE in our new gym!  Students will need a separate pair of gym shoes to protect the new gym floor.  These shoes will stay here at school and be used only for use in the gym (not outside.)
  • The kindergarten classes will begin attending Wednesday mass with the rest of the school on Jan. 16th.  Please note that the Wednesday bell rings at 8:15.  Please make sure to be on time!  We will go the classroom at 8:15 to drop off backpacks and take attendance, and then head straight to mass.  Kindergarten students will sit with their 6th grade buddies, along with the kindergarten and sixth grade teachers.  We will practice and prepare for mass.  This is also a great time to practice mass expectations with your kindergartener during weekend mass as well!  Please keep in mind that students need to wear a green uniform sweater/vest on mass days.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
