Weekly Update 10/25

Dear KA Families,

I hope to see many of you at the SMM Carnival tonight!  The students are doing great with a more independent morning routine.  It is an important social/emotional learning step for students to come into the classroom and unpack their own things, etc.  (If you have any papers for the teacher or the office, just put them in your child’s folder and we will get them daily!)  Thank you for supporting your child’s independent learning in this area!

Next week in KA, we will be focusing on the letter Ii and the new sight word “go.”  In math, we will be working on number sense activities, and practicing the letters 1-5.   In writing, we are working on using the sight words we know to begin sentences (I, we, am, can, the, like, a, see, go.)  In religion, we will learn about some of the different Catholic saints, and take part in the parade of saints in the gym/church on Friday at 10:45.

The new November homework calendar will be going home today!  Mrs. White and Mrs. Geppert check homework each Friday.  It will be collected on the last Friday of the month.

Coming Up:

  • Tuesday Oct. 29th– Peace day.  Students may wear their blue SMM Peace shirts OR regular uniform.
  • Thursday Oct. 31st: Halloween, students may dress up in school-appropriate costume (optional).  Students may either wear their costume OR wear their regular uniform.  Please note that they may not have masks or face coverings, no weapons, and students must be able to “do school” independently in their costume.  We will have a Halloween celebration in class at 10:40 am. Thank you for signing up to bring items for our party!  We are still in need of some volunteers to help out (need to have taken the Virtus class).  Please sign up to volunteer here:  https://signup.com/go/xHsuZMt
  • Friday Nov. 1st: All Saints Day, students may dress up as their favorite saint (optional) OR wear their regular uniform.  (*It is not a free dress day.) Please note that they may not have masks or face coverings, no weapons, and students must be able to “do school” independently in their costume. Need ideas?  Check out these ideas.

Classroom reminders: Please make sure your child has a weather-appropriate coat or jacket every day, and a refillable water bottle every day!  Thank you.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
