Weekly Update 9/7

Hello KA Families!

Wow, what an exciting and busy week it has been!  Today was our first day with all 18 students in class, and it was so fun to see everyone together.

I will send an email newsletter to the class weekly.  This weekly update will explain what is coming up in the next week, as well as any important class and school reminders. As we get going with our reading and math, I will also include the letters, sight words, and math skills of the week. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask any time!

This week we began to go through some of our important class routines such as class rules, recess boundaries, bathroom procedures, etc.  Next week, we will begin our class jobs (the students are very excited about this!), and start diving in to some academics.  Please note that the first few weeks of kindergarten can be very tiring for students as they adjust to a full day of school, friends, and routines.  If your child seems a little extra tired or cranky at the end of the day, please know they have been putting much energy into the “work” of kindergarten!  An extra snack after school and/or an earlier bedtime may help ease the transitions these first few weeks!

Curriculum night is Wednesday Sept. 12 at 6:15.  This is an important night for parents to come to school; we will begin in the parish hall for an all-school meeting with the principal, Mr. Ramseyer, and then go to classrooms to learn more about the class.  Here we will talk about curriculum, homework, class expectations, and special events.  I will also outline opportunities for volunteering in KA, upcoming field trips, etc.  (Students do not need to come!  The meeting is for parents.)  I will look forward to seeing you there!

 A couple of reminders:

  • Please check your child’s folder every night!  Their folder should come back to school every day in their backpack.
  • The “Family envelope” went home in your child’s folder this week.  This is important communication from the school office.  You (and your child!) will need to sign the technology form and the school handbook form.  Please return ASAP.
  • If you haven’t already turned in the emergency form, family picture, or the KA parent survey, please send these in as well.  Thank you!
  • Have you taken the Safe Environment Training class?  If not, it will be offered at SMM on Sept. 20 from 6-9 pm.  See family envelope for more info.  This training class is mandatory for anyone who would like to volunteer in our classroom or go on field trips with our class.
  • School pictures are Tuesday Sept. 11.  Students may wear free dress.  The order forms are in the family envelope.
  • If you haven’t already found our private class Instagram page, you can follow us at “kakindofday” for photos of class activities and artwork.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
