Weekly Update 10/5

Hello KA Families,

We had an exciting week beginning the month of October, fall art projects, and introducing some new math games during math centers. We have started our writing journals, and it is excited to see their progress already. You can see many pictures of these events on our class Instagram, kakindofday. Coming up next week, we focus on the letter Ss and the sight word “like.”  You can support your child at home by talking about these letter sounds and sight words while reading.  We will wrap up our math unit on sorting, and begin a new unit on number writing and identification.  We will be learning about pumpkins in science, in preparation for our upcoming field trip.

Reminders:

  • Please make sure your child is eating a good breakfast, and getting plenty of sleep.  We have snack at about 10:00, and lunch at 11:40.
  • Homework is due every Friday.  (There were a few students who did not turn in homework!  If something comes up in your family that prevents your child from completing the homework that week, please let me know!)
  • Library books are due back each Thursday.
  • Please be sure your child comes to school with a weather-appropriate jacket or coat.  With the wet weather, a sweatshirt is not enough to keep them warm and dry outside at recess.
  • Is anyone missing a size small uniform vest?  One was left in the classroom with no name.  (PLEASE LABEL ALL UNIFORMS AND OUTERWEAR!)  There is already a collection of lost and found jackets and items accumulating by the office.

Coming up:

Thurs. Oct. 11- Math night for K-3, 5:30-6:30 pm

Friday Oct. 12- No school, teacher in-service day

Friday Oct. 19- Pumpkin patch field trip to The Farm at Swan’s Trail.  (Students may wear free dress.  Must bring car seat or booster for carpools.)

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
