Weekly Update 5/10

Dear KA families,

The ABC countdown begins on Monday!  We are so excited to count down the last 26 days of kindergarten in a special way.  Please refer to the calendar sent home last week (and also attached here for your convenience.)

Thank you for your responses to the KA parent survey.  Your input helps me guide my planning and instruction for the future.  On a similar note, I would like to invite you all to take a few minutes to respond to the annual schoolwide parent survey if you haven’t already.  You can earn service hours for responding!  The link is here : https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2N58GJF

Over the next two weeks, we will focus on the letters Yy and Zz and the sight words “where” and “me.”  Students will be taking the spring MAP test for reading on Friday.  In math, we will continue to work on adding, subtracting, larger numbers, and patterns in numbers.  The students have been practicing counting by 5s and counting by 2s.

In religion, we will continue learning the Hail Mary and practice praying the Children’s Rosary (one decade.)

Coming up:

  • ABC Countdown begins Monday.
  • School-wide Spirit Week is from May 17-24.
  • Thursday May 23rd, field trip to fire station.  All students must have a booster seat or carseat.

SAVE THE DATES!  We have two very special events for families happening the last week of school.

  • Monday June 17th : KA End of Year Celebration at 1:30 pm. This will be our classroom “graduation” ceremony with student presentation, awards, slideshow and treats.
  • Tuesday June 18th : Last day of school prayer service at 11:00 am, led by KA and KB.  (school is dismissed at 12:00). The kindergarten classes will lead the school prayer service with songs and prayer.  This prayer service assembly will be held in the gym due to the church construction beginning soon.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!  Thank you,

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
