KA Weekly Update 11/21

Hello KA Families,

I am looking forward to meeting with each of you in the next few days for conferences.  We will celebrate the growth your children have already made in kindergarten, and look ahead to future goals for the rest of the year.

The children enjoyed a special Thanksgiving lunch today.  In addition to their own lunch, they had the opportunity to sample turkey, pumpkin pie, and apple cider.  They loved sitting together in a large “banquet” table to celebrate and give thanks.

I can’t believe it is almost December, and Advent is nearly here!

Next week in KA, we will be reviewing the letters Nn and Cc, and the sight word “have”.  In math, we will begin a new unit about plane shapes, and continue working on “more” and “fewer” with graphing.   In religion, we will be learning about Advent and what it means to prepare for the birth of Jesus.  In science, we will be learning about hibernating animals.

The new December homework calendar will be sent home on Monday 12/2.  Mrs. White and Mrs. Geppert check homework each Friday.  It will be collected on the last Friday of the month.  (This month, it will be collected on Friday 12/20.)

Coming Up:

  • Book Fair- Our class will visit the book fair during library class on Thursday Dec. 5th.  If you would like to send money with your child to shop for a book, please put it in a baggie with their name.  Please note there is sales tax, so a book that costs $5 will actually cost about $5.50 to purchase. (You may also visit the book fair before or after school with your family.)
  • Friday Dec. 13th is the all-school Christmas program, at the Everett Civic Auditorium.  Save the date for this evening event!  The kindergarteners will be singing near the beginning of the performance.  Stay tuned for more details coming soon.
  • Friday Dec. 20th is a half day, noon dismissal (no lunch period).

Classroom reminders: Please remember our classroom is nut-free!  Please make sure your child has a weather-appropriate coat or jacket every day, and a refillable water bottle every day!  Thank you.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
