Weekly Update 1/25

Hello KA Families,

Happy Catholic Schools Week!  The SMM Open House is tomorrow, I hope to see you there!  You can stop by any time from 10:00-1:00.  If students attend mass and/or open house in their uniform, they may wear free dress on Monday.  Also, thank you for your thoughtful responses to the “parent homework”!  We have compiled these responses into a special display in the kindergarten hallway for Catholic Schools Week, and will also be making a special card for Father Olson and the parish.

This week in KA, we will be working on the letters Dd and Rr, and the sight words “for” and “you”.  In math, we are working on numbers 1-12, and using them in different ways.  In writing, students will be increasing their level of independence in writing, applying our knowledge of sight words, letter sounds, and best guess kindergarten spelling.  In religion, we will begin talking about Catholic schools week.  In social studies, we will be learning about Lunar New Year, and Groundhog Day!

Good work on the January homework.  Mrs. White and Mrs. Geppert check homework each Friday.  It will be collected on the last Friday of the month.  (This month, it will be collected on Friday 1/31.)

Coming Up:

  • Sunday Jan. 26th– Open House 10-1, bring your family, friends, and neighbors!  Come visit all the classrooms, and show off our school! Meet your future first grade teachers, too.  I hope to see you there.  (Also, students who wear their uniforms to Mass will earn free dress Monday the 27th)
  • Tuesday Jan. 28th– PEACE day, students may with their blue SMM Peace shirts, or regular uniform.  This is “student appreciation” day too, so we will get a movie break after lunch!
  • Friday Jan. 31- Distinguished Alumni Assembly and Prayer Service, 2:00 in parish hall.

Looking ahead:

-We will celebrate Valentine’s Day in class on Feb. 13th.

White, Katie

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
