Weekly Update 3/14

Hello KA Parents,

Happy (early) Saint Patrick’s Day!  We had a fun day dressed up in green and celebrating with the parade and assembly.  We got to see our 6th grade buddies today, and they helped us with our math project: counting and graphing the marshmallows in Lucky Charms!

I hope to see many of you at SMM Shenanigans on Saturday night!  It will be a fun and festive event to support our school.

This coming week in reading, we will be reviewing the letters Kk and Uu.  We will review the sight words “little”, “said”,  “here”, and “was.”  In math, we are working on larger numbers (over 20).  We will continue to work on addition and subtraction continually at math stations throughout the rest of the year. In religion, we are focused on Lent and practicing how to be the HANDS, HEAD, and HEART of Jesus.  In science, we will begin our unit on Living and Non-Living things.

*Please note that during Lent, kindergarten will ONLY attend Stations of the Cross on Good Friday (April 19th) for Living Stations.  We do not attend each week with the rest of the school.

Lenten Service

-You may have noticed that each student received a Rice Bowl for Lent; it is in their folder with the homework.  It is an optional charity collection that helps raise money for the poor through Catholic Relief Services.  Students may bring their Rice Bowl donations back to class by Good Friday, or put it in your church collection basket at Mass on Easter.

-The first graders are leading another Lenten charity collection for the March of Dimes for mothers and babies.  There is a collection box in the KA classroom if you are interested.

Upcoming Dates:

  • Friday March 15th– No school for students, teacher in-service day.
  • Saturday March 16th– SMM Shenanigans Event (for parents/adults).  This event is a fun evening out, and a fundraiser for our school.  It is in our new school gym from 6-9 pm.  I hope to see you there! You can purchase tickets here:  https://stmarym.ejoinme.org/shenanigans or at the door.
  • Thursday March 21st– Crazy Sock Day, in recognition of World Down Syndrome Day, students can wear crazy socks with their school uniform.

*Save the date for our spring field trip to Fire Station 1 in Everett on Thursday May 23rd.  Email me if you would like to drive/chaperone and I will let the office know to check for your Virtus class and paperwork.  Thank you to those who have already contacted me!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
