Weekly Update 3/22

Hello KA Parents,

Happy Spring! I hope you are all enjoying the shift in weather.  A couple of reminders for school, especially now that it is spring:  please make sure your child has a refillable water bottle every day!  Also, please make sure girls wear shorts underneath their skirt/jumper if they don’t wear tights.

This coming week in reading, we will be focusing on the letters Gg and Ww.  We will be working on the sight words “he” and “she.”   In math, we are starting a new unit on measurement.  We will continue to work on addition and subtraction continually at math stations throughout the rest of the year. In religion, we are focused on Lent and practicing how to be the HANDS, HEAD, and HEART of Jesus.  In science, we will begin our unit on plants!  We are excited to be planting seeds soon and observing how they grow.

*Please note that during Lent, kindergarten will ONLY attend Stations of the Cross on Good Friday (April 19th) for Living Stations.  We do not attend each week with the rest of the school.

Lenten Service

-You may have noticed that each student received a Rice Bowl for Lent. It is an optional charity collection that helps raise money for the poor through Catholic Relief Services.  Students may bring their Rice Bowl donations back to class by Good Friday, or put it in your church collection basket at Mass on Easter.

-The first graders are leading another Lenten charity collection for the March of Dimes for mothers and babies.  There is a collection box in the KA classroom if you are interested.

Upcoming Dates:

  • Tuesday March 26: Peace Day, students may wear blue SMM peace shirt, or regular uniform
  • Friday April 5: Class photo day.  Students must wear full uniform.  Order forms will be coming home soon.

*Save the date for our spring field trip to Fire Station 1 in Everett on Thursday May 23rd.  Email me if you would like to drive/chaperone and I will let the office know to check for your Virtus class and paperwork.  Thank you to those who have already contacted me!

Mrs. White is so excited for another great year in KA! She has been at SMM since 2014, and has been teaching in Catholic schools since 2002. Over the years, Mrs. White has taught many grade levels and subjects, but kindergarten is her absolute favorite! She loves being part of the early learning process and seeing the amazing connections that kindergarteners make every day. Mrs. White graduated with a BA in education and history from CWU (go Wildcats!) and earned a M.Ed. from Seattle U (go Redhawks!) She lives in Everett with her husband and two sons. Some of Mrs. White's favorites, in no particular order: Dogs, Chocolate, Hiking, Books, and Snow!
